Blockchain Malware Cases Soar 440% Amid AI-Powered Hacking
A new threat has emerged in the cryptocurrency space as hackers increasingly use blockchains to hide malicious code.
The number of instances where malware instructions are written into on-chain transactions and smart contracts has surged by 440% in less than a year, with an average of 11 cases per day reported by blockchain analytics firm Chainalysis. This is up from two cases per day prior to the release of powerful Chinese open-source AI models that can generate malicious code without restriction.
The increase in attacks on blockchains has raised concerns about the security of cryptocurrencies and the potential for widespread cybercrime. As hackers become more sophisticated, the need for robust security measures and regulation becomes increasingly pressing.
