BNB Chain Activates Pasteur Hard Fork for Enhanced Security and Capacity
BNB Chain has activated its Pasteur hard fork on BNB Smart Chain mainnet at 02:30 UTC on August 25. The upgrade is aimed at enhancing security and increasing block capacity.
The hard fork includes updates to improve cross-chain verification, tighten validator authorization, and boost the limit on block capacity by 88%.
BNB Chain has been testing the upgrades on its Chapel testnet since July 21. The network continued to run at a 450 millisecond block interval after activation with no major issues reported.
The Pasteur hard fork includes three proposals: BEP-682, which reduces an issue with light-block verification for cross-chain infrastructure; BEP-695, which improves validator security by preventing operator key transfer and pending penalties clearing; and BEP-675, which increases block production efficiency through pre-submission of blocks.
The upgrade also prevents restricted addresses from circumventing governance checks through offchain signatures made by other accounts. BNB Chain has reported no exploitation or funds lost due to the updates.
