BNB Chain's Pasteur Hard Fork Set for August 25 Activation
The BNB Chain is set to undergo a hard fork called Pasteur on August 25, 2026. This update aims to strengthen bridge verification and validator governance on the network.
One of the key changes introduced by Pasteur is BEP-682, which improves how blocks are validated for cross-chain transfers. The network will now check validator signatures before accepting information from another chain, ensuring that a genuine validator supermajority approved the block.
An additional change brought about by this upgrade is BEP-695, which addresses the issue of key rotation in validators. After Pasteur, an old consensus key will lose its administrative authority instead of retaining privileges following a rotation.
The upgrade also includes BEP-675, which allows builders to submit blocks they have already executed. Validators can check the proposed block against consensus rules, sign and broadcast it, then complete full verification outside the critical path.
