BNB Chain's Pasteur Hardfork Aims to Boost Capacity and Security
The BNB Chain is set to undergo a significant upgrade called Pasteur hardfork on August 25. This upgrade aims to increase the network's capacity and improve its security features. According to the source, the Pasteur hardfork will introduce three key proposals: BEP-682, BEP-695, and BEP-675.
BEP-682 is designed to strengthen bridge checks by preventing duplicate validators from being counted multiple times when signatures are checked. This change is intended to prevent a validator from appearing repeatedly in a crafted set and having its voting power counted several times.
BEP-695 deals with validator key changes, ensuring that the previous consensus key no longer retains powers after a new key has been introduced. The proposal also makes sure that slash evictions follow key rotations and blocks blacklisted addresses from using signature-based governance votes to bypass restrictions.
The biggest capacity change comes from BEP-675, which eliminates the need for validators to execute transactions before they are executed again. This process currently uses valuable time within the 450-millisecond block window.
