BNB Slumps 3% Amid Market-Wide Risk-Off Move and Technical Rejection
BNB's recent price drop of 3.06% is largely attributed to a market-wide risk-off move following a hawkish speech by new Fed Chair Kevin Warsh at Jackson Hole.
The speech triggered a sharp reaction, with Bitcoin dropping from around $81,500 to below $77,000 within an hour, erasing over $80 billion from the total crypto market cap and pulling majors down 2-5% in a day.
BNB was not singled out for any separate negative event but simply moved with the rest of the market. The broader data shows the total crypto market cap is down about 2-3% over the recent multi-day window, with the altcoin market cap also softer.
The price drop can also be attributed to a technical rejection after an upgrade-driven rally on BNB Chain's 'Pasteur' hard fork, which implemented several upgrades to harden cross-chain and governance security and increase block capacity. The upgrade led to an 88% jump in measured throughput and a price jump from around $688 to $713 by August 27.
BNB was sitting at a major resistance zone around $700-$725, which acted as a ceiling once macro turned and buyers hesitated. The market naturally pushed the price down into nearby liquidity pockets, with no clear new BNB-specific negative event such as a lawsuit, hack, or internal failure in this window.
