BNB Smart Chain Activates Pasteur Hard Fork to Boost Block Capacity

BNB Smart Chain has activated its Pasteur hard fork, which combines three BNB Evolution Proposals to strengthen bridge verification, tighten validator authorization, and increase block capacity without changing the network's 450-millisecond block time.

The upgrade aims to improve security and throughput simultaneously, with a focus on reducing duplicated work and increasing transaction efficiency. BEP-675 lets builders submit already-executed blocks, while validators check consensus rules before completing full execution verification.

Tests on QANet showed a significant increase in throughput, rising about 88% from 1,237 to 2,324 transactions per second. However, these results are from controlled tests and not mainnet performance measurements.
