BNB Surpasses Ethereum and Solana as Grayscale's Top Smart Contract Holding
Grayscale Investments has made BNB (Binance Coin) the largest holding in its Smart Contract Fund, surpassing both Ethereum and Solana. This move was announced as part of the firm's second-quarter portfolio rebalance on August 5.
The BNB Chain has experienced rapid growth over the past year, driven by expansion in decentralized finance (DeFi), tokenized real-world assets, and enterprise blockchain applications. Grayscale's decision to increase its allocation to BNB reflects growing institutional interest in the asset.
The Smart Contract Fund tracks the CoinDesk Smart Contract Platform Select Capped Index, which weights assets primarily by market capitalization while imposing concentration limits for diversification. BNB now represents 30.6% of the fund, ahead of Ethereum at 29.47% and Solana at 29.15%. The rebalance was conducted according to the underlying index methodology rather than as a discretionary investment decision.
This change is part of Grayscale's ongoing effort to keep its thematic cryptocurrency investment products aligned with evolving market capitalizations and index methodologies. In addition to the Smart Contract Fund, the asset manager also rebalanced its Decentralized Finance (DeFi) Fund, increasing exposure to Ondo while trimming Uniswap.
