BNP Paribas and Google Cloud Unite for Five-Year AI Push

BNP Paribas has been actively developing its cloud infrastructure to meet the growing demands of AI and innovation. The bank's partnership with Google Cloud is a significant move, spanning five years, as part of its efforts to diversify its cloud presence. BNP Paribas has also renewed its collaboration with IBM Cloud for an additional 10 years, until April 2035, which includes the development of new data center spaces.

The bank's AI initiatives rely heavily on GPU resources delivered through a 'GPU as a service' model, providing the necessary computational power. BNP Paribas is targeting nearly 1,000 AI use cases by 2026 and has already made significant strides in this area. However, regulatory complexities in Europe, particularly with the European Digital Operational Resilience Act (DORA), pose challenges to the bank's digital infrastructure.

Data sovereignty remains a concern for European regulators and policymakers, pushing banks towards solutions that store sensitive information within European borders or under European legal frameworks. BNP Paribas has some history with Google Cloud, having formed a digital alliance back in 2015.
