Bolivian Toyota Distributor Toyosa Accepts Bitcoin Payments

Toyota's official distributor in Bolivia, Toyosa, now accepts Bitcoin as payment for vehicles. This move comes after Bolivia allowed electronic payment channels to process virtual-asset transactions in 2024. The change does not make Bitcoin legal tender, but rather distinguishes it from state-issued money.

The payment option is provided through Towerbank's transaction-processing platform and BitGo's wallet infrastructure, security, and transaction traceability. However, it remains unclear whether Toyosa receives the Bitcoin directly or if the funds are converted to other currencies beforehand.

A vehicle purchase using Bitcoin involves several stages, including a vehicle quote, Bitcoin payment request, customer transfer, confirmation, and merchant settlement. The last stage creates two possible outcomes: either Toyosa retains the Bitcoin or it is converted into another currency.
