Bond Market Volatility Surges to Highest Level Since March, Bitcoin Remains Calm
The bond market is sending a mixed signal to investors as volatility surges to its highest level since March, while Bitcoin and stock markets remain relatively calm.
The MOVE index, which tracks expected volatility in U.S. Treasuries, has jumped from around 80 to 104, marking its highest reading since March when it briefly spiked to 199.
This increase is driven by rising energy prices and bond yields amid inflation concerns, adding uncertainty to the market.
In contrast, Bitcoin's implied volatility gauge, BVIV, remains subdued near its yearly low of around 37, while the S&P 500 volatility index stays close to its year-to-date low of 14.
The negative correlation between bond and equity/bitcoin volatility indicates that rising bond market volatility has not yet spread to other markets.
