BounceBit Token Utility Stripped After 286M Exposure

BounceBit's token economy has been severely impacted by an authorization flaw that exposed 286.5 million BounceBit tokens (BB). The company shut down its standalone Layer 1 network and reissued BB on the BNB Chain, but in doing so, it stripped the token of most of its utility.

The incident occurred due to a protocol-level authorization logic inherited from the Evmos stack. This flaw allowed an unauthorized caller to identify another account as the funding source without the required approval, while private keys, signatures, and wallets remained uncompromised.

For holders, a 1:1 reconstruction of balances will be performed, but the token's previous gas, staking, rewards, and governance roles are now lost. BounceBit has not provided a one-for-one replacement for these functions, leaving the utility proposition of the new token uncertain.
