BounceBit Token's Utility in Jeopardy After Chain Shutdown

The BNB Chain-based token, BB, has had its standalone Layer 1 shut down due to a major authorization flaw. The issue allowed hackers to move approximately 286.5 million BB from nine accounts without the required approval.

BounceBit attributed the incident to protocol-level authorization logic inherited from the Evmos stack. The company stated that private keys, signatures, and wallets remained uncompromised, but instead of patching and restarting the network, they chose to retire it altogether.

The shutdown has left BounceBit's token utility in limbo. While a 1:1 reconstruction of balances will be implemented for holders, the previous gas, staking, rewards, and governance roles of BB are no longer viable due to the retirement of the network.
