BPI Brings AI Influence Research to Capitol Hill, Spotlighting $23.6 Billion in Blocked Investments
The Bitcoin Policy Institute (BPI) recently brought its research on foreign influence operations to Capitol Hill, focusing on the Chinese Communist Party's efforts to target US AI infrastructure development.
BPI's Head of Research Sam Lyman and journalist Robby Soave presented a fireside chat in the House Select Committee on the CCP's hearing room, discussing how these campaigns have systematically blocked or delayed $23.6 billion in proposed AI investments across 14 states.
The research identifies two key vectors of influence: CCP-affiliated state media amplifying opposition to AI projects and a nonprofit network funded by Neville Roy Singham, which has been linked to Beijing.
The BPI reports detail the 'Singham ground game,' where organizations in his funding network have organized grassroots-style opposition to data center development in communities nationwide.
