Brandt Slams XRP as 'Dumb Coin', Warns Against Valuing It Solely on Transaction Use
Senior trader Peter Brandt has expressed his skepticism towards XRP, labeling it as a 'dumb coin.' In an interview, he emphasized that while Bitcoin is primarily seen as a store of value, XRP's focus on transactions and usage sets it apart from other cryptocurrencies.
Brandt drew attention to the question marks surrounding XRP's total supply and potential expansion. He argued that just because something can be used in transactions doesn't automatically mean it has to be more valuable. The experienced trader compared XRP to the US dollar, stating that while it may be effective for transactions, people don't expect its value to appreciate solely based on this use case.
Brandt also categorized cryptocurrencies according to their use cases, placing transaction-focused assets like XRP and store-of-value assets like Bitcoin in separate categories. He expressed a more positive view of Ethereum and Solana, stating that they have the potential to reach higher levels.
The trader maintained his long-standing skepticism towards XRP, even considering Ripple's collaborations with banks worldwide and recent progress. Brandt acknowledged that XRP can be used cheaply and effectively in transactions but emphasized that this doesn't automatically translate into real economic value for the token.
