Brazil Execs Ponder Stablecoin-Fueled Tokenization Boom
Executives at Febraban Tech 2026 discussed how stablecoins are opening new fronts for tokenization in Brazil. They noted that the development of this market depends on creating an infrastructure capable of connecting tokenized assets, digital currencies, and traditional financial systems.
Fabrício Tota, Vice President of Business at Mercado Bitcoin, said that one of the key points for developing tokenization in Brazil is the existence of a real-denominated settlement infrastructure. He emphasized the need for stablecoins denominated in reais to liquidate tokenized assets, not just those in dollars.
Larissa Moreira, Product Manager at Itaú Unibanco, reported that the market has started experimenting with applications of stablecoins focused on operational efficiency. She also mentioned new opportunities in areas such as treasury and cash management.
Regulation will play a crucial role in accelerating the migration of institutional flows and expanding the participation of banks in digital assets, according to Raphael Palacio Soares from BTG Pactual.
