Brazil's Federal Police launched a nationwide operation, dubbed Operation Commodity, targeting an alleged transnational drug trafficking and money laundering network. The group used crypto brokers, shell companies, and luxury assets to conceal up to R$1 billion in illicit proceeds.

The investigation alleges that the network shipped around 6.5 metric tons of cocaine to several European countries beginning in 2021. Authorities also said the network maintained operational ties with two criminal organizations active inside Brazil.

Crypto brokers allegedly helped conceal illicit proceeds by disguising ownership and moving funds. Investigators identified shell companies, luxury goods, and real estate as other methods used by the group to hide its financial activity.
