Brazil Sets $10,000 Reporting Threshold for Self-Custody Crypto Transfers
Brazil's central bank has introduced a new reporting rule for self-custody crypto transfers. Starting October 1, 2026, covered institutions must report any transfer of $10,000 or more to or from self-custody wallets to the Financial Activities Control Council (Coaf) by the next business day.
The new rule, Resolution BCB No. 588, does not ban self-custody or cap how much a user can move. It also does not require a qualifying transfer to be blocked. The $10,000 figure is a reporting threshold, not a transaction limit, according to B3.
Self-custody wallets involve assets held outside of an authorized institution, which can reduce the availability of information for monitoring and risk assessment purposes, said the central bank.
