Brazilians Tokenize Cows Without Blockchain Tokens
A pioneering loan in Brazil has used tokenization to register ten cows as collateral on B3, the country's main stock exchange. The $20,000 operation is backed by a decades-old rural credit note and uses smart collars to create an encrypted digital identity for each animal.
The producer at Fazenda Engenho Velho in Paraná signed a Cédula de Produto Rural Financeira (CPR-F), a traditional Brazilian credit instrument. BMP Sociedade de Crédito Direto originated the loan, and Target FIDC acquired the credit rights before registering the operation on B3's conventional infrastructure.
Each cow carries an encrypted digital identity built from collar data on health, location, and behavior, making each animal eligible for formal registration at B3 as a movable asset. However, this involves no public blockchain, tradable token, or wallet.
