Brian Armstrong Argues Crypto Deserves Credit for Expanding Financial Access
Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong is making the case that cryptocurrency has not received enough credit for expanding global financial access. According to him, crypto 'doesn't get enough credit for the financial access it's already unlocked for the world.'
Armstrong highlights blockchain technology as a fundamental change in how money and financial infrastructure operate. The potential of crypto extends beyond speculative assets like Bitcoin or Ethereum prices, he argues.
Crypto introduced a different model from traditional banking. People with an internet connection can create digital wallets and receive cryptocurrency without opening a conventional bank account. This global accessibility is one area Armstrong believes deserves greater recognition.
Stablecoins are cited as a clear example of crypto's financial-access argument. Unlike Bitcoin, stablecoins maintain a relatively stable value by referencing assets like the U.S. dollar. Users in countries with volatile currencies or limited access to dollar-denominated products can use stablecoins for digital payments and transfers.
Armstrong has argued that billions of people lack access to traditional financial services, including four billion who do not have what he describes as 'U.S.-style' financial services. Instead of rebuilding banking infrastructure country by country, blockchain-based services can operate on globally accessible networks.
