British Man Recovers Lost Bitcoin Worth Millions After 12-Year Ordeal

A British man has recovered his lost Bitcoin after 12 years of inaccessibility. Chris invested £1,500 ($2,000) in Bitcoin through Intersango, a UK cryptocurrency exchange, in 2011.

However, the platform stopped operating in 2014, and Chris's account was frozen. He tried to withdraw his holdings but found that they were inaccessible. At the time, his Bitcoin was worth about £4,000.

Despite giving up on recovering his lost cryptocurrency, Chris watched as its price soared over the following decade, climbing into the millions. In 2018, he received emails from Intersango co-founders asking former customers to contact them, but deleted the messages thinking they were scams.

It wasn't until this year that Chris's wife persuaded him to try again. He hired CEL Solicitors, which specializes in recovering lost cryptocurrency, and the firm gathered documents to prove his ownership. The case was settled on May 28, with all 61 Bitcoin returned to him.
