The Brooklyn District Attorney’s office has successfully dismantled a large-scale cryptocurrency scam network based in Eastern Europe. The operation, which concluded last week, targeted a fraud ring that had allegedly stolen tens of millions of dollars from American victims. The bust involved shutting down 241 websites connected to the scam and seizing 112 computer servers used by the fraudulent group. These servers were hosted by companies in Eastern Europe and the United States.
The effort to dismantle this network was part of a years-long investigation by the Brooklyn DA’s office. Officials described the operation as a significant victory in the fight against international financial crimes. The fraudsters had been operating under the radar for an extended period, making the takedown particularly challenging.
Law enforcement agencies played a crucial role in coordinating the operation, ensuring that the scam’s infrastructure was completely disrupted. The seizure of the servers and the shutdown of the websites are expected to deal a major blow to the fraudsters’ ability to continue their illegal activities. Authorities have not yet disclosed whether any arrests have been made in connection with the bust.
