BTC Rallies Past $69k on Treasury Liquidity Boost
The Bitcoin (BTC) price surged past $69,000 today, marking a significant break from its multi-week trading range. The cryptocurrency climbed nearly 9% in a short period, from $64,500 to around $68,805. This rapid ascent indicates that derivatives activity played a key role in the move.
The initial catalyst for the rally was the U.S. Treasury's announcement about increasing nominal long-end liquidity support buybacks. The Treasury stated it would at least double the maximum size of its buybacks in the 10 to 20-year and 20 to 30-year sectors from $2 billion to at least $4 billion per operation, effective September 9, 2026.
Markets interpreted this announcement as a potential liquidity boost for the longer-dated Treasury market. As a result, Treasury yields moved lower, and broader risk sentiment improved across financial markets. Bitcoin benefited from this shift in sentiment.
