BTCS Inc (NASDAQ: BTCS) is shifting its focus to decentralized finance (DeFi) operations and on-chain borrowing as a funding mechanism, said Charles Allen, the company's CEO. The move aims to increase gross profit while remaining directionally long Ethereum.

Allen explained that Imperium DeFi operation will act as a 'shock absorber' against Ethereum price movements, allowing the company to continue operating if ETH declines or remains flat.

The company is expanding its Imperium to Base, an Ethereum Layer 2 network, which gives it another chain through which it can generate revenue and gross profit. BTCS operates across NodeOps, block-building activities through Builder+, and DeFi liquidity provisioning through Imperium.

Allen highlighted the benefits of on-chain borrowing, saying it provides relatively low-cost capital with near-immediate availability without the legal and underwriting processes associated with traditional financing arrangements. The approach allows BTCS to increase or reduce leverage as conditions change.
