Bullish Puts Hefty Bet on AI Credit Boom with $100M Loan
Bullish, an NYSE-listed institutional crypto platform, has made a significant move in the AI credit market by lending $100 million to USD.AI. This amount will be used for loans to businesses building artificial intelligence and related infrastructure. The unique aspect of this deal is that the firms leveraging these funds will use their highly valuable computer chips (GPUs) as collateral.
The company believes that this new type of lending has huge potential, with a scale that eclipses legacy debt markets such as auto loans and home equity lines of credit. Bullish's Head of Tokenization, Thomas Cowan, stated that his company strongly believes in connecting real-world assets to digital money systems.
However, the concept also comes with risks. The price of GPUs can drop rapidly, and they become outdated quickly when better ones are invented. This poses a challenge for borrowers who may struggle to pay back their loans if GPU prices plummet.
