Buterin Dashes Hope for AI-Induced BTC Price Crash

Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has disputed entrepreneur Liron Shapira's claim that AI could cause a 50% or greater price crash in Bitcoin within two years.

Shapira had assigned a 50% probability to this outcome, but Buterin thinks it's unlikely. He believes AI may create cybersecurity challenges, but these don't necessarily mean Bitcoin's fundamental security assumptions will collapse.

Buterin notes that any vulnerabilities not requiring changes to the network's social consensus can be handled smoothly by Bitcoin. These include network-layer attacks and software vulnerabilities in node implementations, wallets, mining infrastructure, exchanges, or libraries surrounding the ecosystem.

The Ethereum co-founder thinks a cryptographic break affecting Bitcoin's hashing system or proof-of-work mechanism remains extremely small. He accepts that AI will make cybersecurity more challenging, but believes most practical vulnerabilities are fixable.
