Buterin Defends Blockchain Security Amid AI Hacking Fears
Vitalik Buterin, co-founder of Ethereum, has pushed back against claims that AI-powered hacking will weaken cybersecurity in blockchain and cryptocurrency systems. He argues that advances in AI can also help defenders if the industry shifts how it builds software.
'Cybersecurity is naturally defense-favoring once people get their shit together,' Buterin said, pointing out that almost 90% of his net worth remains in crypto.
He added that with advancements in AI, security can be shifted to proactively finding bugs before attackers do. This would also help build systems that are harder to break in the first place.
The catch is that the definition of 'secure' hides several risks, including forged messages, server compromise, key leaks, and others. Buterin thinks teams can no longer verify only the parts they consider security as critical with modern AI making it possible and necessary to verify the entire program.
