Buterin Disagrees with AI-Driven Bitcoin Crash Warning

Vitalik Buterin has spoken out against Liron Shapira's warning that AI could trigger a major Bitcoin crash within two years. According to Shapira, there is a 50% chance that Bitcoin will lose more than half its value during this time due to potential AI-related security risks.

However, Buterin disagrees and believes the probability of such an event is extremely low. He argues that Bitcoin's developers can respond quickly to most technical threats before they become catastrophic, and that the network can adapt to new vulnerabilities without requiring broad social agreement.

In fact, Buterin said that about 90% of his net worth is already exposed to crypto, backing up his confidence in Bitcoin's security. He also emphasized the importance of separating software vulnerabilities from attacks against Bitcoin's core cryptographic protections, noting that the probability of breaking these protections is 'tiny'. Hash algorithms and Proof-of-Work systems are among the key components that Buterin believes are secure.

The debate surrounding AI security risks has also led to a discussion about access to advanced AI models for open-source digital-asset security teams. The Bitcoin Policy Institute, along with over 40 other organizations, has requested controlled access to these tools in order to better protect the network from potential threats.
