Buterin Ramps Up Pressure on Ethereum to Prioritize Privacy Amid AI-Driven Threats
Vitalik Buterin, co-founder of Ethereum, has reaffirmed his commitment to addressing the platform's privacy challenges. Speaking at the 12th Global Blockchain Summit, Buterin emphasized that traditional onchain privacy methods are becoming inadequate as artificial intelligence advances.
The issue is not just about hiding user names; AI can now analyze patterns in public blockchain data to reveal sensitive information. Buterin has grouped privacy alongside censorship resistance, open source development, and security under the acronym 'CROPS,' which he believes should be core properties of Ethereum.
Ethereum's ongoing privacy work includes private reads, writes, and transaction inclusion (FOCIL), as well as a possible protocol-level shielded pool for ETH and ERC-20 transfers. Buterin has framed the push for native privacy as essential to preserving individual autonomy and freedom.
