Buterin Reaffirms Commitment to Strengthening Ethereum Privacy
Vitalik Buterin, co-founder of Ethereum, has reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening the platform's privacy features. In a recent post on X, Buterin wrote 'It's only dead if you give up,' and added 'I'm not giving up on privacy. I'm doubling down.'
This statement comes as part of a broader trend within Ethereum to prioritize privacy. Recent roadmaps have shifted towards supplementing privacy within the existing structure, which has long emphasized transparency.
Buterin has argued that Ethereum should be seen as part of a 'refuge technology' ecosystem, building open-source infrastructure that allows people to transact and communicate without government pressure. He also presented a path to pursue 'native privacy' through account abstraction, key-based nonces, and access-layer work.
A current development direction is focused on private reads, private writes, and private proofs. Private reads aim to prevent infrastructure providers from accurately determining what users are viewing, while private writes address exposure issues when a user sends a transaction.
