Buterin Seeks New Cryptographic Tools to Enhance Blockchain Security
Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin recently addressed the need for new cryptographic tools in a speech at the Shanghai conference. He emphasized that blockchain technology requires more than just a standalone ledger, highlighting the importance of integrating advanced cryptography across various layers and applications.
The evolution of blockchain is transforming it into a complex cryptographic network that encompasses Layer 1 and Layer 2 solutions, off-chain computations, and multi-participant block building. Buterin pointed out that as powerful data analysis and AI advance, the privacy models of early public blockchains have become inadequate.
Technologies like SNARKs, STARKs, and fully homomorphic encryption are crucial for addressing scalability and security in blockchain ecosystems. Buterin's assertion emphasizes the need for zero-knowledge technology to transition from theoretical frameworks into practical Ethereum Improvement Proposals (EIPs).
