Buterin Sees AI as Cybersecurity Ally
Vitalik Buterin, co-founder of Ethereum, has expressed his disagreement with the notion that stronger artificial intelligence (AI) will make cybersecurity impossible to defend. He believes AI can actually help developers build software with stronger mathematical security guarantees.
Buterin argues that formal verification, which uses mathematics to prove that software follows defined rules, can be made cheaper and easier to create with advanced AI. This process would allow developers to ensure their software meets specific security standards.
The Ethereum co-founder also emphasized the importance of defining what 'secure' means for complex software systems. He noted that even with formal verification, there is still a risk of missing potential threats if the security definitions are incomplete or inaccurate.
