Buterin Unveils Plan for 'Cryptographic World Computer' to Revolutionize Ethereum
Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has outlined a vision for a 'cryptographic world computer' that could transform the way transactions are verified on the network by 2030.
The proposed system combines blockchain technology with cryptographic proofs and networks of computers doing work away from the chain, allowing for more efficient processing and verification of transactions.
According to Buterin, this would remove the need for each computer to rerun calculations behind every transaction, which currently sets a limit on the network's capacity and makes it costly to use. Instead, a single computer would process transactions and generate a short mathematical proof showing that it followed the rules, which other computers could verify.
The 'cryptographic world computer' concept is not new, but Buterin believes that newer cryptographic tools make it possible to implement now. He notes that Ethereum's developers wanted to divide work up like this ten years ago, but lacked a way to guarantee that every participant had done its part correctly.
