Bybit CEO: Pure Crypto Exchanges are Becoming Obsolete
Bybit's CEO Ben Zhou believes that the era of 'pure crypto exchanges' is coming to an end. He attributes this shift in demand from customers who want to trade digital assets alongside stocks, gold, forex, indices, and derivatives.
In a recent interview with Cointelegraph, Zhou stated that users are seeking a one-stop-shop for their financial needs, where they can 'pay, save, and grow their wealth' in the same place. Bybit's own repositioning is evident in its 'Make Your Move' campaign, which positions the exchange as a broader financial platform.
Bybit already offers derivatives tied to stocks, gold, and indexes, as well as forex products that provide price exposure without ownership of the underlying assets. This move comes amidst the decline of several established crypto exchanges, including BitMEX, CoinEx, and BitMart, which have either ceased trading or announced wind-downs due to falling volumes and rising compliance costs.
The shift towards a broader financial platform is also reflected in rival Coinbase's 'Everything Exchange' strategy, which includes stocks and prediction markets alongside cryptocurrencies. Bybit's CEO believes that the next generation of financial platforms will not be built around a single asset class but rather cater to diverse user needs.
