Bybit Expands European Offering with Electronic Money Institution Licence
Bybit Payments GmbH has secured an Electronic Money Institution (EMI) licence from Austria's Financial Market Authority (FMA), allowing it to provide regulated e-money and payment services through Bybit.eu. This comes alongside existing crypto-asset services on the platform, provided by Bybit EU GmbH, an Austrian crypto-asset service provider authorised under the Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCAR).
The EMI licence enables Bybit Payments GmbH to offer a range of regulated payment capabilities, including person-to-person payments, e-money services, and merchant payment solutions. The licence also supports the development of strategic relationships with financial institutions, payment providers, and enterprise partners.
Bybit EU GmbH and Bybit Payments GmbH have distinct regulatory permissions and responsibilities to comply with regulatory requirements. Georg Harer, Managing Director at Bybit EU GmbH and Bybit Payments GmbH, said that Europe is setting a global benchmark for how digital assets and financial services can evolve together under clear regulation.
The EMI licence will support the integration of crypto-assets, payments, and everyday financial services through the Bybit.eu platform. Bybit Payments GmbH's Managing Director, Bernhard Krick, stated that maintaining a clear distinction between the two regulated entities is fundamental to providing services within their own permissions.
