Bybit Payments GmbH Secures EMI Licence for Regulated Payment Services
Bybit Payments GmbH has obtained an Electronic Money Institution (EMI) licence from Austria's Financial Market Authority (FMA), paving the way for regulated e-money and payment services on Bybit.eu. This expansion is a significant development in Europe's growing digital asset market, where clear regulation sets global benchmarks.
Bybit Payments GmbH will provide electronic money and payment services through the Bybit.eu platform, complementing the crypto-asset services offered by Bybit EU GmbH, an Austrian crypto-asset service provider authorised under the Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCAR) since May 2025. The two entities have distinct regulatory permissions and responsibilities to comply with regulatory requirements.
The EMI licence will enable Bybit Payments GmbH to build regulated payment capabilities, including person-to-person payments, e-money services, Strong Customer Authentication, open-banking functionality, merchant payment solutions, and future card initiatives. This expansion is expected to support strategic relationships with financial institutions, payment providers, and enterprise partners.
