Bybit Secures E-Money License in Austria for Expanded European Services
Bybit has taken another step in expanding its services in Europe by securing an electronic money institution license for its Austrian subsidiary, Bybit Payments GmbH. This regulatory approval will enable the exchange to offer payment and e-money services on its regional platform, Bybit.eu.
The license was granted by Austria's Financial Market Authority (FMA) on Tuesday, August 5, 2026. Bybit Payments GmbH will be responsible for developing card, merchant, open-banking, and person-to-person payment services.
Bybit has two separate entities in Austria: Bybit EU GmbH, which is authorized to provide crypto custody, exchange, placement, and transfer services under the European Union's Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA), and now Bybit Payments GmbH, with its new e-money license. The exchange stated that this regulatory milestone could help strengthen its relationship with banks, payment providers, and enterprises while reducing reliance on third-party payment infrastructure.
