Bybit Secures EMI License in Austria, Expanding EU Payment Services
Bybit, a leading cryptocurrency exchange operator based in Dubai, has expanded its services in the EU after receiving an Electronic Money Institution (EMI) license from Austria's financial regulator FMA. The new license allows Bybit Payments GmbH to issue electronic money and provide various payment services across the EU.
The company had previously opened its European headquarters in Vienna after obtaining an Austria FMA MiCAR (crypto) license. This latest development enables Bybit to issue digital money, provide IBAN accounts, and process payments within the EU through passporting.
This move is part of Bybit's broader strategy to expand beyond digital assets, as announced last year with the launch of Bybit TradFi, which includes FX and CFDs trading products.
