Bybit Sues North Korea Over Massive $1.5B Crypto Heist

Bybit, a major cryptocurrency exchange based in Dubai, has taken legal action against North Korea's government and state-sponsored hackers over a massive heist in 2025. The attack resulted in the theft of $1.5 billion worth of assets, making it the largest cryptocurrency theft in history.

The exchange filed a civil lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia against the DPRK government, the Lazarus Group cybercrime syndicate, and the Reconnaissance General Bureau (RGB), North Korea's military spy agency.

Bybit also secured a preliminary injunction freezing stolen assets linked to the heist. The lawsuit seeks compensation for the losses incurred by the exchange due to the attack.
