Bybit Taps Jump Trading Veteran to Lead Institutional Business
Bybit has appointed Sean Ballard as its new head of derivatives and institutional business. Ballard comes from Jump Trading, where he led high-frequency futures trading across various regions, bringing over 25 years of experience in derivatives, market structure, trading risk, and exchange technology.
His appointment coincides with Bybit's focus on building infrastructure for professional and institutional investors. The exchange has been expanding its institutional custody and collateral infrastructure, including arrangements to allow clients to maintain assets with custody providers while retaining access to exchange trading.
Bybit has also developed its Market Maker Gateway, reducing round-trip latency for high-frequency and quantitative trading firms from 4 milliseconds to 1.5 milliseconds. The exchange is positioning itself as a platform that combines crypto derivatives, traditional-asset exposure, custody, lending, and tokenized real-world assets.
Ballard's experience at Jump Trading could be relevant to Bybit's efforts to compete for institutional trading volume. High-frequency trading firms require reliable execution, predictable risk controls, deep liquidity, and operational arrangements that integrate with existing financial systems.
