Bybit Unveils Restricted Counterparty List to Combat Stolen Crypto Flows

Bybit has published its Restricted Counterparty List, naming entities that users are prohibited from transacting with on the exchange. The list includes crypto platforms, mixers, darknet markets, payment services, and sanctioned organizations such as Garantex, Bitzlato, and Lazarus Group.

Users who engage with restricted counterparties may face blocked transactions, account restrictions, or liquidation. Bybit actively screens transactions and user activity against the list on an ongoing basis, and potential actions include suspending or terminating accounts, blocking transactions, filing regulatory reports, and cooperating with regulators or law enforcement.

The publication comes at a time when exchanges are grappling with contaminated crypto flows following Bitget's $351.6 million security breach. While there is no evidence that Bybit published the list in response to the attack, the timing highlights how centralized platforms can become enforcement points after stolen assets begin moving across chains.
