Tarantino argued that scams often begin through social engineering, rather than at a Bitcoin ATM itself. He claimed that responsible operators can serve as an important intervention point in the chain of fraud.

Byte Federal has invested heavily in compliance and consumer education to prevent fraudulent transactions, particularly among older adults. Tarantino reported that their efforts prevent 84% of identified potential elder-fraud transactions from being completed.
