Cardano ADA Surges Past Key Level on Rising Derivatives Activity
Cardano’s ADA token surged from $0.24 to $0.28 between October 3 and October 5, breaking above its 200-day exponential moving average (EMA). This upward movement coincided with a 25% rise in open interest, reaching $304 million, and a spike in whale transactions exceeding $100,000, which hit 413 on October 5. The data suggests heightened activity in crypto derivatives rather than a simple short squeeze.
The rise in open interest, measured in coins rather than dollars, increased by about 13%, indicating that new positioning entered the market. Funding rates flipped from their most negative reading on October 2 to positive, suggesting some short covering. However, the concurrent rise in open interest implies fresh positioning, not just a squeeze.
Whale activity also surged during this period, with transactions worth at least $100,000 reaching 413 on October 5, about 2.2 times the average recorded between September 7 and October 2. Social volume increased but did not reach frenzy levels, standing at roughly 1.1 times the baseline.
If the bullish momentum and derivatives demand persist, ADA could test $0.40. However, the data does not guarantee this outcome, leaving the price with a complex setup of strong open interest, elevated whale transactions, and some evidence of short covering.
