Cardano Aims for $200M DeFi Boost via EVM Wallet Integration

Cardano's Alpha Growth plans to inject $200 million in decentralized finance (DeFi) value within a year through several strategic initiatives. The project aims to integrate Ethereum-compatible (EVM) wallets and simplify bridging assets from Ethereum and similar networks.

The Cardano treasury will back the initiative with 120 million ADA, focusing on making it easier for existing DeFi users on Ethereum-compatible chains to onboard by providing a shared wallet and incentives for lending and liquidity provision. This approach targets existing DeFi users rather than dormant ADA holders, seeking to attract liquidity and capital by reducing friction.

However, the project also acknowledges that long-term user retention remains a challenge, and explores institutional-grade DeFi features like tokenized treasuries and on-chain credit while cautioning against liquidity fragmentation.
