Cardano Dev Team Warns of Hijacked YouTube Channel Scam
Cardano's development team Input Output Group (IOG) issued a warning to users after its official YouTube channel was compromised. The hijacked channel livestreamed a video that appears to be an AI-manipulated clip of Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson.
The fake video, which lasted almost two hours, promoted a cryptocurrency giveaway scheme and directed viewers to a QR code. IOG warned users not to click on any links or share personal information tied to the channel until further notice.
IOG has not confirmed how the channel was compromised or when it expects to regain full control. This incident highlights the risk of hijacked channels being used for scams, particularly those with large followings and a history of verified content.
The use of AI-generated video and audio makes these scams increasingly difficult to spot, as even close matches can be made to real people's voices and mannerisms.
