Cardano DReps and SPOs Rush to Meet Governance Deadline for Leios Upgrade
Cardano's DReps and SPOs are facing an important governance deadline on September 1, which could affect the network's ability to approve key protocol changes. According to IOG Product Manager Carlos Lopez De Lara, this is crucial because Cardano needs a fully seated Constitutional Committee to approve the Constitution Update linked to the planned Leios scalability upgrade.
The vote for four newly elected Constitutional Committee members has seen low participation so far, with DRep support at 43.04% and SPO support at 15.32%. Lopez De Lara warned that failing to seat enough committee members could create a governance bottleneck, potentially delaying the approval of certain proposals.
The Leios upgrade is designed to increase the network's transaction-processing capacity by enabling greater parallelism in block processing. However, before the necessary governance changes can move forward, Cardano needs a properly seated Constitutional Committee to approve the Constitution Update associated with Leios.
