Cardano Enters Emerging AI Payments Sector with New Integration
Cardano has expanded its capabilities in the AI payments sector through a new integration. The Cardano Foundation announced on September 21 that its blockchain is now part of the official x402 software development kit (SDK), allowing applications and AI agents to pay for API calls using ADA or Cardano native tokens.
This development enables automated software to purchase digital services without going through conventional checkout processes. It also gives Cardano a role in making internet payments accessible to machines, not just people. The integration is an infrastructure milestone rather than proof that AI-driven demand for ADA has increased.
x402 is a payments protocol built around HTTP 402, an existing web status code that means 'Payment Required.' It allows applications to request services and pay for them directly through the server without requiring account registration or other cumbersome steps.
