Cardano Futures Open Interest Falls Amid Whale Distribution
Cardano (ADA) futures open interest has dropped by 9% in seven days, signaling a de-risking sequence according to crypto analyst Ali Martinez. This comes as large holders have reduced their exposure by $22.5 million since September 20.
The decline in open interest measures the total number of outstanding futures contracts that have not been settled. When OI rises, new money enters leveraged positions, and when it falls, existing positions are closed, reducing speculative capital exposed to ADA price movements.
The 9% contraction from $1.99 billion to $1.81 billion is a multi-day systematic unwinding of leveraged exposure, not a one-session event. The failed recovery attempt shows that buyers trying to re-enter at lower OI levels were absorbed and pushed out again, indicating a bearish structural read.
Historically, full OI resets at established support zones have preceded new positioning cycles. If open interest continues declining toward the $1.75 billion support level, it would signal that most leveraged positions have been cleared.
