Cardano Governance Deadline Looms as Ratification Support Falls Short
Cardano's governance clock is ticking, and it's running out of time. The Constitutional Committee (CC) ratification deadline is looming on September 1, 2026, at epoch 653, and the current support for renewing four CC seats from Delegated Representatives (DRep) stands at around 33.8%. This falls short of the required 67% threshold to pass.
The situation is even more dire when it comes to Stake Pool Operators (SPO) backing, which trails behind at roughly 2%, against a 51% requirement. The current low turnout has raised concerns, and Intersect's August 14 weekly update urged voting before the deadline.
A failed ratification would not halt the Cardano blockchain from producing blocks or processing transactions but would instead reduce the CC to three members, below its minimum size of five under current protocol rules. This would limit actions such as hard forks, protocol parameter changes, and treasury withdrawals.
