Cardano Joins Mastercard Crypto Program to Explore Cross-Border Payments
Cardano has joined Mastercard's Crypto Partner Program, allowing it to collaborate on cross-border payments, business-to-business transactions, and stablecoins. This partnership will enable Cardano to work with established players in the global payment space to explore how they can utilize its network.
While this move does not suggest that Mastercard is directly using Cardano as a component of their payment platform, it opens up opportunities for collaboration and potential future use cases.
Cardano's stablecoin market holds around $60 million, but over 70% of this is comprised of USDCx. The majority of activity on the network is currently coming from DeFi applications rather than real-world payments.
To scale for global payments, Cardano needs to increase liquidity and demonstrate stronger payment demand. This includes growing user adoption, increasing transfer volumes, and expanding the use of stablecoins for actual payments.
