Cardano Joins x402 Payment Standard for AI Agents
Cardano (CRYPTO: ADA) has joined Solana (CRYPTO: SOL) and XRP (CRYPTO: XRP) in supporting x402, a standard for AI payments that allows agents to pay for services directly without human intervention. The ADA price surged 8% over the past 24 hours, with developers now able to integrate Cardano's payment capabilities into their applications.
The x402 standard was created by Coinbase (NASDAQ: COIN) in 2025 and has since been adopted by a Linux Foundation-backed organization comprising major players such as Visa (NYSE: V), Mastercard (NYSE: MA), Stripe, Alphabet's (NASDAQ: GOOGL) Google, and Amazon's (NASDAQ: AMZN) Web Services. Cardano Foundation engineers have built the client and server software needed to request and verify payments after the specification was accepted in June.
The integration of x402 with Cardano allows developers to pay for API calls using ADA or any other native Cardano token over a standard web request, eliminating the need for accounts, API keys, or checkout pages. The Cardano Foundation has posted on X that any app or AI agent can now use Cardano's payment capabilities.
